Corrupt Lord Ambrose D'Arcy (Michael Gough) steals the work of poor composer Professor L. Petrie. (Herbert Lom). Petrie tries to stop printing music called D'Arcy, breaks into the printer, and accidentally lights a fire, seriously distorting him. Many years later, Petrie returns to terrorize the London Opera that one of his stolen operas wants to perform.
This is really high class movie and I really love it. I will grant that my expectations were very low before seeing this movie. The term 'Best movie' is as you know a relative term. What you or I consider as the best may not even be in someone else's list. So the general rule is to proclaim the one which majority of people like as the best.
